چکیده

This study models a transcutaneous energy transmission system which can supply DC power to an implanted device without an external battery. The goals of the study are to: (1) develop a model to describe the transcutaneous energy transmission system; and (2) use the developed model to design a transcutaneous energy transmission system for an implantable gastrointestinal neurostimulator. The complete trancutaneous energy system includes a power amplifier, a highly inductive coupling structure, and an ac-to-dc rectifying circuit in the receiver. Power amplification is based on the single-ended class E amplifier concept. The power amplification stage is self-oscillating, and the oscillation frequency is influenced by the coupling of the coils. The highly inductive coupling structure employs the stage tuning concept. Design methods and detailed analysis are provided. The proposed model is verified through the implementation of the design.

Adaptive Transcutaneous Power Transfer to Implantable Devices: A State of the Art Review

Wireless energy transfer is a broad research area that has recently become applicable to implantable medical devices. Wireless powering of and communication with implanted devices is possible through wireless transcutaneous energy transfer. However, designing wireless transcutaneous systems is complicated due to the variability of the environment. The focus of this review is on strategies to se...

Vagus nerve stimulation in the treatment of nervous system disease: a review article

The vagus nerve (VN), the longest cranial nerve and an essential part of the parasympathetic system, connects the central nervous system to respiratory, cardiovascular, immune, gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems and is involved in the maintenance of homeostasis by controlling these systems. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is related to any method that would stimulate the vagal nerve via elec...

دستگاه‌های کاشت‌پذیر برای کودکان ناشنوا

The idea of providing hearing to profoundly deaf patients by artificially stimulating the sensory system has progressed from a futuristic possibility to reality. Generally, an implantable hearing device is designed to capture sound and present it to the auditory system, where at least part of the device is surgically implanted in the child receiving it. The goal of the implantable devices in yo...

The Prediction of Speech Recognition in Noise With a Semi-Implantable Bone Conduction Hearing System by External Bone Conduction Stimulation With Headband

Semi-implantable transcutaneous bone conduction devices are treatment options for conductive and mixed hearing loss (CHL/MHL). For counseling of patients, realistic simulation of the functional result is desirable. This study compared speech recognition in noise with a semi-implantable transcutaneous bone conduction device to external stimulation with a bone conduction device fixed by a headban...

A Gastrointestinal Electrical Stimulation System Based on Transcutaneous Power Transmission Technology

Electrical stimulation has been suggested as a possible treatment for various functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID). This paper presents a transcutaneous power supplied implantable electrical stimulation system. This technology solves the problem of supplying extended power to an implanted electrical stimulator. After implantation, the stimulation parameters can be reprogrammed by the ex...
